                                  beginning of a journey 

   My family have always enjoyed watching sports as we found it very entertaining. One specific sport our family enjoys the most is Soccer, mainly due to its global popularity, exciting atmosphere and its one in a lifetime experiences. When I was little I was a Spanish speaker only, not knowing English at all due to the fact I had no one to practice with. Things weren’t going well as my parents didn’t speak English as well And to make things worse I had to begin school soon. So my parents put me in a program at an early age so I can learn English and be able to communicate with my classmates. 

     At the age of six I began kindergarten. I met new people and my English was getting better, not fluent, but there was a lot of improvement. I began making friends over time as the school year went on. One day a group of friends were talking about soccer which interested me. I enjoyed watching it but the issue was they didn’t watch it, they were in a team playing it. From then on, I observed their conversation as they had games every Saturday and practiced during school afternoons. Around spring, I came to my mom and asked if I could join a team. She agreed and supported my idea. I joined our team in which my friends were in. I was nervous because this was my first time playing soccer in general. But my mom was there every single time I had practice to support me. I was very quiet the first couple of months because my English wasn’t very good but over the course of time I began talking and communicating with my teammates and improving my English very well. In my opinion, I believe my love and passion for soccer is what made me improve my English so much because it’s something I love to do to this day.

          But not everything was pretty and fun because in the process, I felt like I didn’t fit in. Yes, they were my friends from school but while practicing it seemed like we didn’t know one another because I wasn’t as good as them. It led to me wanting to quit and no longer show up to practice just how I felt in school when my English wasn’t very good. No matter the issue, I chose to face my problems and practice when I had a chance by myself so I could improve and become an expert and master the language and the skills of the sport . At the age of 8 my English was perfectly fine as well as improving my soccer skills because I was always a passionate player when it came to the sport. At that time becoming one of the best players of the team. It was such an accomplishment for me, since two years ago I knew nothing compared to what my other teammates already did.I no longer felt that I had to fit in. I felt like an example of someone that never gave up and always pushed to do best. 

       To this day, I play soccer on a daily basis and use my communication skills to communicate with my classmates, teammates, and my elders for anything that’s needed. I have become a person who depends on communication skills in order for me to be successful and anything I want to do or learn. I went from a kid who didn’t know anything about what he wanted to someone who knows what he wants in the future through learning new stuff and building a strong personality and character. Like my parents say it’s never a good idea to give up on dreams because not everyone starts at the same time and not everyone finishes at the same time. Everyone succeeds at different times.
