      My English course this semester is nothing similar to what I had in high school. This year I definitely noticed a difference compared to how it was back in high school. The material was quite more flexible and involved more major assignments, but they weren’t boring assignments, they were more engaging assignments. I’m not a person who likes writing or reading in general but when it comes to doing it, I feel like I do it exceptionally well. During English 110 I felt more connected to what I was writing with my personal life as well as being creative with my essays and drafts along the way. Something I did like this semester about English is definitely that peer review was a requirement and it was part of your grade mainly because back in high school no one would really give actual feedback besides just complementing your writing. No one was really cruel to what you were really writing. Everyone just wanted to be over it but here in college it’s different. It gives you good feedback on how to improve your writing over your drafts that you have given in for peer reviews. The LLN essay was definitely my favorite essay to write this semester because you were writing about how the struggle of not knowing English impacted you as a student and your personal life. I felt like I was talking one on one with someone because it felt so realistic. It made me feel like someone was hearing me out when I was writing it. The synthesis essay was something really interesting as well. We were required to use sources from the CCNY library and for me this was the first time using it and it was at first a complicated experience because I didn’t know how to use databases and how it worked but overtime I’m proud that I learned new things for my future courses in college and where I could get my resources from. My topic was discrimination against Latinos in educational systems. I felt mostly strong and related to this topic because I myself am a Latino. and it’s crazy how we were treated unfairly compared to other races when it came to a fair education. Finding resources for this topic wasn’t hard, but you were required to be very specific because it would provide resources for other stuff, not mainly the topic I was looking for. I feel like when it came to peer review as well for this essay it was much more flexible and easier because we had one on one meetings with our professor to make sure  we were on the right track which made my writing much better than it initially was.

This course has taught me how to collaborate with my classmates, especially group work and mandatory peer review. I was a student who didn’t like collaborating with my classmates and preferred independent work. This course has changed it and I feel like I have improved much more in my communication or asking for help when I needed it. My professor Kevin Kudic is an extraordinary professor. He’s a really great professor that cares for his students and loves his students. If I have a chance, I’ll retake it like his class again, but obviously I can’t because I have to proceed, but he’s an excellent professor and I’m grateful that I had him this semester. He held one on one revise reviews to give feedback on our essay. He was completely honest with his feedback saying I sky through some of my writing in which re reading back I was . I like his complete honesty because it shows me the stuff I’m doing wrong as a writer and stuff I need to approve of including unnecessary responses during my writing. 

    To conclude this amazing class that I proudly applied for has improved my writing so much to what it initially was back in high school. Having support from my classmates as well as my professor to back me in a way to improve and like my professor says there’s always room for improvement because nothing is always perfect. I am thankful for the new techniques I was taught that could help you in my next course next semester, which will be a course called writing for engineers. As I will be majoring in civil engineering, I hope to establish these skills in order to succeed in my future. I will look back on this English course and be like wow this was the beginning of an amazing story in my college career.
